Kerry leads AI strategy and development across Canva’s Teams and Education products, helping millions of people around the world work, learn and create in new ways. Kerry is passionate about building AI that’s both practical and ethical—tools that enhance creativity, streamline collaboration and deliver real value to users.
Since joining Canva in 2021, Kerry has developed AI systems that make photo editing seamless, overhauled Canva’s content understanding capabilities, built an ML-driven human-in-the-loop content review pipeline and created algorithms powering many of Canva’s magical features. She also advises on responsible approaches to AI, ensuring innovation is matched with care for user experience and trust.
Kerry is a published author with multiple patents, whose career spans visual perception, human–computer interaction and applied machine learning. She completed her PhD at the University of Melbourne developing technology for the bionic eye, before moving into AI for healthcare at IBM and leading data science for the Victorian Government. Across every role, her focus has remained the same: using technology to solve meaningful problems and open new possibilities for people.
